My name is Taylor DiPlacido and I am currently on track to graduate from Ohio University in May of 2018. At OU, I spend my days studying Visual Communications: Interactive inside the Scripps School working to expand my design skills, taking my camera out for little photography dates and occasionally baking a cupcake or two. As much as I love design, baking is in close competition. The way different piping tips create specific swirls, each ingredient has a distinct role and every recipe has various twists, makes me almost relaxed, you could say; it puts me in my happy place.
During the summer going into my sophomore year, I accepted an internship with The Adcom Group in Cleveland, Ohio. Through this adventure, I learned valuable design techniques, gained experience working with and designing for clients, built up teamwork skills, expanded brainstorming capabilities and developed relationships with co-workers. I am so grateful to have had this internship opportunity with Adcom because I was still trying to find my voice and my style in the design world and after the internship, I became more confident and bold with my work.
I currently hold a job as a student graphic designer through Auxiliaries and Marketing on campus where I update information, revise old marketing materials, bring new creative ideas to the table and photograph any materials needed. Having this job while I am in school has really helped me grow as a designer because it allows me to see how well I handle multiple things being thrown my way at once, whether it's from my classes or from the job.
I am not perfect at everything I do. I run into rough patches when it comes to designing; sometimes my photo's come out blurry and occasionally my baking comes out dry, but that's why I love what I do. There's so much to learn, so much to see, so much to try. To me, every day, every design, every photo, is a new experience.
